Contrary to popular belief and some of the local epoxy flooring "experts" in the greater Orlando market.... You do need and should request an epoxy primer when installing an epoxy garage floor system.
Here are a few reasons why a primer is a requirement:
- Primer seals the surface allowing topcoat to flow evenly
- Primer maximizes topcoat hide
- Primer increases topcoat coverage and adhesion
- Primer promotes an even sheen and uniform appearance
- Primer seals problems, stopping them from coming up
Frankly if the contractor or "garage organizer" does not specify a primer in his/her EPOXY floor coating system run for the hills and call a pro for a real coating system that will outlast you.
